Time to Talk about Body Odour/Upcoming Workshop
I’m running a workshop next weekend on Natural Hair and Body Products. It covers alternatives for: deodorants, body powders, hair shampoos and dyes and toothpaste. The workshop is at Tonsley TAFE (Adelaide SA) next Saturday – there at still some vacancies – you are welcome to come - see listing below for more detail.

| | But first I thought I’d just run past you my reasons for the topic and the impact such products have on both humans and the environment. The ‘personal products’ business means big money for manufacturers. Clever advertising depicting naked women bathing under a waterfall (what relevance that has to deodorants is anyone’s guess!) or a particular deodorant (for men) having the ability to attract women! People are obviously easily swayed when it comes to personal smell and appearance!
However the production of such products has a huge impact on the environment. Plus in terms of chemicals has an impact of the welfare and health of humans. But there are alternatives and lots of options – all safe, good for the environment (and you) and cheaper than the commercial counterpart. Here’s my suggestions:

| | DEODORANTS: Most deodorant products are aluminum based – with recently uncovered evidence of adverse reactions for humans. (See newspaper clipping opposite)
The Alternatives: Herbs (specifically thyme, rosemary, sage), Cider vinegar, Lemon juice

BODY POWDERS:
Talc is a mined substance that exploits the earth's resources. It also
has links to health problems such as cancer and asthma.
The Alternatives: Rice-flour, corn-flour, orris root powder.

| | TOOTH-PASTE: Contains lots of nasty chemicals – including artificial sweetener and the dreaded sodium lareth sulphate.
The Alternative: Bicarb soda, salt, herbs

| | HAIR CARE: Modern commercial hair shampoos are basic 'grease-strippers' - containing the same detergent base (chemical compound) used for a range of cleaning products: dish detergents, laundry powders, hand washes, floor cleaners, shower 'gels', etc.
The Alternative: Pure soap, Egg, Herbs,.
