Subject: We went back. AI didn’t.
Hi Friend,
Maria here again from Nerd Nomads — I’ll keep this one short.
We wrote last week about why we’re bringing our travel newsletter back. You might have missed it, which is completely fair — everyone’s inbox is a mess.
So instead of making the case again, let me just show you what I mean.
A few years ago, we wrote up Bangkok’s Talad Noi as a “best kept secret” — a quiet riverside neighborhood of old shophouses and back alleys most visitors never reached. Back then, that was true.
But we were there again recently, and Talad Noi has changed. The street art has gone viral, the cafés are busier, and some days it can feel like there are more visitors than locals wandering the lanes.
It’s still a wonderful neighborhood. It’s just not much of a secret anymore.
That’s the kind of thing old travel advice gets wrong. And it’s the kind of thing AI can easily keep repeating, because AI doesn’t go back and check.
So we went back, saw what had changed, and changed how we write about it.
That’s still our job: telling you what’s actually true on the ground right now, not what’s been copied from articles written years ago. Small, current, first-hand. The stuff that actually shapes a trip.
If that’s useful to you, you don’t need to do anything — you’re already on the list.
Going forward, that’s what we want to send you: what’s changed, what’s still worth it, what we’d skip next time, and the places we’re genuinely excited to tell you about. Once or twice a month, and never more than that.
And if you’re planning a trip right now, hit reply and tell us where — we read and answer every one.
If it’s not for you, no hard feelings at all — that’s the last reminder from us. From here on, it’s just the travel letters, and you can unsubscribe right here whenever you like.
Happy travels,
Maria & Espen
