Dear Colleague,

With recent Hurricanes Fiona and Ian causing widespread devastation, particularly in Puerto Rico and Florida, it is crucial we are prepared to support students, families, staff, and school communities.

• The National Child Traumatic Stress Network compiled resources for September's National Preparedness Month and Hurricane-Specific Resources.

• Our NCSMH team curated resources on Helping Students Cope With the Preparation and Aftermath of Natural Disasters.

Additionally, we are deeply saddened at the news of more school shootings: Roxborough High School in Philadelphia, PA, and Rusdale Newcomer High School in Oakland, CA. We maintain that more action must be taken to protect the lives of our children. We hope each of you are able to care for yourself and your loved ones, and that you can continue to effectively support your students, staff, and communities.

• The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) has created many excellent resources for students, staff, and families affected by school shootings.

• A staffer at Learning for Justice wrote A Love Letter to Teachers After Yet Another School Shooting - sadly, over four years ago.

• Our NCSMH team created the repository Supporting Students, Staff, Families, and Communities Impacted by Violence with links to resources by organization.
