Mercy University Seeks K-12 Educators for Gender Minority Study

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Principal Investigator Jack Simons, PhD, Associate Professor at Mercy University. The study aims to investigate how and when school staff intervene on behalf of gender minority students, as research reflecting the experience of these students in this area is lacking.

You are eligible to participate in this study if you are 21 years old and a member of the school staff. If you would like to participate, you will complete an electronic survey which should take approximately 15-25 minutes. Your responses will be anonymous, and your participation is voluntary. There is no financial reward for participating in the survey, but if you are interested, you can provide your name, phone number and email address and you will be entered into a drawing for a gift voucher. You can win one of 20 Amazon cards worth $25.

If you have questions, you may contact Dr. Jack Simons at 914-674-7816 or by email at jsimons1@mercy.edu.

Center for Addiction Medicine at Mass General Hospital Seek Participants for a Randomized Clinical Trial of a Novel Drug Education and Diversion Program for Students

Middle and high school students are invited to participate in a randomized clinical trial conducted by Principal Investigator Randi Schuster, PhD, Clinical Investigator at Mass General Research Institute. Researchers at the Center for Addiction Medicine at Mass General Brigham are testing the effectiveness of iDECIDE (Drug Education Curriculum: Intervention, Diversion, and Empowerment) on middle and high school students who have violated their school substance use policies (e.g., using at school or school sanctioned events, showing up to school intoxicated). The goal is to provide schools with a science-based intervention as an alternative to punitive school responses in order to address substance use in schools, as well as provide students with the proper knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. Study participants may be compensated up to $390.

To be eligible, participants must:

  1.  Be currently enrolled in middle or high school

  2.  Have violated their school substance use policy within the past 30 days

  3.  Be able to commit to nine study visits over approximately one year

  4.  Have access to reliable internet connection and a device that can run Zoom

Interested individuals should complete this brief interest form to learn more. School mental health personnel and teachers are encouraged to share details of this study with their mentees and/or students.
