Energy Central Learning Hub Welcomes Next Generation of Clean Energy Engineers
Blyth’s flagship Energy Central Campus (ECC) has welcomed the first learners to its state-of-the-art Energy Central Learning Hub (ECLH). The facility includes advanced training spaces and a Clean Energy Visitor Centre. The last few remaining places are still available to start now.
It’s more important than ever to give space to shorebirds
Several shorebird species on the Northumberland coast, including turnstones and dunlins, have been reclassified as "near threatened" due to global population declines. This includes curlew and oystercatcher. Our Space for Shorebirds initiative helps protect these birds by educating beachgoers. Visitors are asked to give shorebirds space, especially in autumn and winter.
Rural projects to share £3.5m for raft of improvements
A £3.5 million funding boost is supporting diverse projects across Northumberland including a mountain bike trail in Kielder Forest, solar panels for community buildings, and improvements to Hauxley Nature Reserve.

Solar panels receive planning permission on listed community buildings
Both Lesbury Village Hall and St Paul’s Church in North Sunderland have now received approval from the North Northumberland Local Area Planning Committee to have solar energy installed. This is part of the Solar-Powered Community Buildings project that will help reduce energy costs, increase sustainability, and ensure these vital community hubs remain well-maintained for future generations.

Energy Learning Network (ELN)
The Energy Learning Network offers resources, mentoring, and connections to help both new and established groups launch or expand projects that decarbonise the grid and benefit local communities.
Funding
The Energy Project Enabling Fund
The third round of the Energy Project Enabling Fund (EPEF) is now open for applications. Capital grants of between £30,000 and £245,000 are available to community energy groups, public sector organisations, charities, and other eligible organisations wanting to deliver local energy projects.
North East Community Foundation
Up to £500,000 is being made available to community organisations across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland for environmental and climate-related projects. Re-wilding programmes, recycling and repurposing projects, raising awareness in communities, and improving the energy efficiency of a building are examples of activities that would be considered. The max grant size is £10,000.
