We’re winners!
We're thrilled to announce we have won the Regional Vulnerable Customer Support Organisation of the Year category in the North East Regional Energy Efficiency Awards 2024 for our initiatives including Northumberland Communities Together and the Warmer Homes program. The Awards recognise the innovators and achievements in the energy sector which help to save energy, help the environment, and drive down energy bills.
Historic pollution clean-up work update
Final preparations are underway for major works to address historical pollution on the coast at Lynemouth, with the Council allocating £5 million for the clean up. In late June, contractors BAM Nuttall will begin excavating and processing the waste materials. This will involve separating the waste materials for safe off-site disposal and reinstating the landscape, with completion aiming for autumn 2024. Council teams are monitoring and removing waste from the cliffs and beach. The public is advised against attempting to remove any waste themselves for safety reasons.

Want to volunteer with us?
After celebrating this year’s 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 3 to 9 June 2024, we are highlighting the range of volunteering opportunities we have on offer. Join over 2,000 registered volunteers who support services in a variety of ways both formally and informally from green dog walkers and litter pickers to asylum seekers and refugee befrienders and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service Cadets. Get in touch with our dedicated volunteer team at the council via email at volunteer@northumberland.gov.uk
Can you help us reduce emissions in agriculture?
We want to hear from farming communities, related businesses and supply chains about what barriers you are facing to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions across agriculture and forestry in Northumberland. Funded by Innovate UK, we are working on a project with the Rural Design Centre to identify and address these barriers. Please fill out our survey to help us better understand the unique and local challenges. For more information please email agriculture@northumberland.gov.uk or call 01661 721001.
