Welcome to your monthly edition of our Climate Change newsletter

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have released their Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) on the physical science basis of climate change and it makes clear the stark reality of the climate emergency.

According to the report the Earth is projected to hit 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming by 2030, a full decade sooner than previously thought. If we do everything right, we can go back down to 1.4°C by 2100.

Northumberland’s combined positive and negative emissions in 2019 brought us to a grand total of 681 kilotons of CO2 emissions. This is the amount by which emissions must be reduced in order to become a net-zero or carbon neutral county. Our aim for this is 2030, and NCC are working with residents, partners and stakeholders across seven areas to enhance sequestration and reduce harmful emissions as soon as possible. These areas are:

  1. Council Policy

  2. Engagement and Partnership

  3. Heating Existing and New Buildings

  4. Transport

  5. Renewable Energy Generation

  6. Natural Resource-Based Carbon Sequestration

  7. Reducing Waste

We need everyone to do their bit to help reduce carbon emissions as much as possible over the next decade.

Domestic Emissions Dashboard

We have developed our very own Domestic Emissions Dashboard for Northumberland. The dashboard allows residents to look up the carbon emissions produced by homes in their postcode including the average emissions per home.

We want residents to use the dashboard to help save money on bills while helping save the planet from the disastrous effects of climate change. Simply enter your postcode and choose a carbon saving measure to see what you could save.
