Assalamu Alaykum Friend

SubhanAllah. The chances Allah has given us to gain reward are incredible. From simple actions to great sacrifices, our deen gives us ample chances to please Allah. And one such way is through the blessed months in which deeds are more rewarded and emphasised.

Wishing you a blessed Muharram

It feels like just yesterday Friend that we were in touch with you about the blessings of Dhul Hijjah. Now the month of Muharram is upon us and it presents its own chances for reward. It is a month in which good deeds are emphasised and it is the year that kicks off the new Islamic year.

Our team wishes our brothers and sisters a blessed new Islamic year. All praise is to Allah for giving us another year to be able to worship Him, ask His forgiveness and work for His sake.

Muharram is one of the blessed months in the Islamic calendar. The performance of good, virtuous deeds is encouraged and one of the most encouraged acts is that of fasting.

Allah says: ❝Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in the register of Allah from the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them❞ [Quran 9:36]

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that this phrase "do not wrong yourselves during them" referred to all the months, but that these four were singled out and made sacred, so that sin in these months is more serious and good deeds bring a greater reward.

The Messenger of Allah (salallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ❝The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram❞ [Muslim]

The 10th of Muharram was so significant that it was initially obligatory to fast on that day. The Prophet and the companions would fast on this day before the obligation was abrogated due to the fast of Ramadan.

It is strongly encouraged to fast the 10th of Muharram ('Ashura) and to combine it with either the 9th or 11th. This Saturday is the 10th of Muharram. We encourage you to consider fasting on the blessed day of Ashura (10th Muharram).

An opportunity to take care of your missed Zakat

Blessed months like Muharram are a great chance to take care of any Zakat you may have missed over the years. As you know, Zakat is an obligation when an individual becomes mature and possesses wealth in excess of the threshold (Nisab).

Its omission is a sin in Islam and any unpaid Zakat from the past is a severe debt that must be paid. Non-fulfilment by those whom it is obliged on has its own specific rules that we all need to know.

To learn more about the details of missed Zakat, we have some great knowledge as part of our Zakat Guides that you can use to get acquainted with what you need to do.

If you are struggling to calculate your missed Zakat, we can assist you with the correct steps to take. You can call us on 1300 663 729, or chat to us online via our website.

Many of us have missed Zakat at some point in our lives due to being less aware, or practising, or whatever other reason. It's totally fine as long as we are sincere in our intention and make up our debt. We're here to help you fulfil this obligation, insha Allah!
