Subject: Friend Wonder what happens to your Zakat once you've clicked "confirm payment"✔️

This is what we do ...

Assalamu Alaykum Friend,

We hope you took advantage of the offers from our service partners that we had sent in our previous email. Do let us know if you found them beneficial.

Do you ever wonder what process your Zakat payment goes through after you have paid it?

We believe that transparency is crucial when it comes to the Amanah you trusted us with. So allow us to go through the process with you

Application Assessment

On average we have 10-15 new applicants a day who apply for Zakat assistance.

Zakat recipients need to be in the 8 categories of Zakat according to the Quran and Sunnah to be eligible. In order to ensure this, all applications go through an assessment process by our Case Management team. A triage is conducted to identify any emergencies, in which case we will assist with temporary emergency relief.

Our case workers go through specific guidelines to assess Zakat eligibility which involves financial and other assessments. Part of this process includes requesting for and reviewing relevant documentation such as bank statements from the applicant.

Distribution

Once the application has been deemed eligible under one of the Zakat eligible categories, the case officer will make a recommendation on how best NZF can assist the client. This could be financial assistance for food, rent, housing, medical costs or many other avenues. The recommendation is then reviewed & approved by a team lead after which the money will be distributed to the client.

If an application is not Zakat eligible, we will look at alternate ways we can assist the client. This includes exploring utilising some of our Sadaqah donations, as well as referring them to one of our various service partners who might be able to assist them.

Why such a complex process?

We appreciate that at times, clients can get frustrated by what seems like a complex process to receive Zakat, as compared to perhaps assistance they may receive from other organisations. An important consideration that people often overlook is that Zakat is not the same as Sadaqah. It has strict regulations on who it can be distributed to, whereas Sadaqah can be used for various purposes. It is our responsibility to ensure that the Zakat you entrust us with, is being distributed as per the Quran & Sunnah.

We are working on continuously improving and streamlining our assessment process so we can be as efficient as possible while ensuring that our priority is distributing your Zakat to those who have the right to it.

We hope that gives you a little insight into how we handle your Zakat payments. If you do have any questions, please let us know by replying to this email and we'll be happy to address them.

Thank you for considering NZF for your Zakat payment.

Jazakum Allah Khairan
