Subject: Friend Have we left deaf Muslims without the support they need?

Assalamu Alaykum Friend

One of the issues we've always been passionate about is creating an inclusive community where no Muslim is left behind.

One set of Muslims whose needs we often forget about is our deaf Muslim brothers and sisters. It is currently very difficult for deaf Muslims to become actively involved in our community.

The Islamic reminders that we hear at mosques and the recitation of the Qur'an cannot easily be interpreted by these individuals. The lack of AUSLAN interpreters provided to our deaf brothers and sisters also often makes them feel excluded.

Have we as a community done enough to look after their needs? What MORE can we do as a community to support them?

Join us for a critical discussion on this long overdue topic in our next episode of Real Talk TONIGHT.

Our panellists will be:

  • Sr Raian Hoblos, a Deaf Muslim ambassador who delivers inspiring speeches in AUSLAN using sign language. She is profoundly deaf.

  • Br Ayman Khoder (Sr Raian's husband) who is also a deaf community advocate and is hard of hearing.

We are very grateful for their agreeing to shed some light on this critical area. We hope you can join us insha Allah!
