Subject: Friend Pornography and other addictions need a collective response

Assalamu Alaykum Friend,

Unfortunately more than 60% of men watch pornography weekly. Many of our Muslim brothers are among them.

And the same is true for other addictions. Drugs. Alcohol. Gambling.

While the extent may not be the same as the rest of society, it is a significant challenge in many households nonetheless.

With addictions impacting our community at a significant scale, our response to them must be even larger.

This is nowhere more true than with pornography addictions, which wreak havoc upon people’s lives and relationships and carry a heavy social stigma.

The behaviours associated with porn addictions are very common and unfortunately easy to develop in our challenging times.

It is our responsibility as a community to step up and assist those that are mired in the challenges associated with this addiction, other addictions and their debilitating impacts.

Our work in this sphere aims to do just that - powered by your Zakat and Sadaqah.

As part of raising awareness on this critical issue, our next episode of RealTalk will reflect on addictions and the journey to recovery.

We will also discuss how the community can step up to the plate and aid those who are struggling against the array of addictions we see around us.

Our wide ranging conversation including issues such as:

  • How addictions can impact us and how ANYONE can be trapped

  • What the road to recovery looks like

  • Incredible stories of those who have recovered

Tune in next Thursday, 8th December, at 6:30 PM for an essential conversation around substance use addictions and other behavioural addictions with our dear brothers Mohamad Fenj and Teguh Syabhahar.

We look forward to seeing you there inshaAllah.
