Subject: Welcome December

Wow, It's December already, where did the year go!

Assalamu Alaykum Friend,

It's already December, the end of the Gregorian year.

For many of us this is a time to reflect on the past year and start making plans for the next. (And no, I'm not getting into new year arguments here!😆)

Some of you are busy watching the world cup 🤔, others busy with school graduations and yet others are planning holiday activities and trips!

I am also aware that not everyone has it easy, and with everything becoming so expensive nowadays, some of you are probably not looking forward to the holidays due to challenges you already have with your finances.

Please be assured that at NZF, we are here to help our brothers & sisters right here in our community. If you are undergoing any difficulties, or know of anyone who might be struggling, please don't hesitate to reach out to us and we will do our best to assist insha Allah.

We are also inching closer to Ramadan with just over 3 months to go - so during these holidays, you can busy yourself with getting into a habit of reading a little bit more Quran every day, or praying one more Sunnah prayer etc. in preparation for the blessed month!

May Allah keep us safe and allow us to witness another Ramadan. Ameen.

Addiction. It's Our Struggle

Last month we started a campaign to raise awareness about the impacts of addictions in our community and what we are doing to fight those impacts.

Join us for our Live Real Talk Episode on Thursday 8th of December at 6:30pm (Sydney time)

'I'm Addicted. Can I Get over This?'

In this episode, we reflect on addictions and the journey to recovery. We also discuss how the community can step up to the plate and aid those who are struggling against the array of addictions we see around us. We’ll be having a wide-ranging conversation including issues such as:

- How addictions can impact us and how ANYONE can be trapped
- What the road to recovery looks like
- Incredible stories of those who have recovered

Panellists: Mohamad Fenj and Teguh Syabhahar.

Host: Faraz Nomani

Please remember that you don't need Facebook to stream live! Non-FB members can stream on our Instagram or Youtube social channels.

'Voices of Muslim Women' Event

Last month our Service Partner Selma Cook from Sacred Balance in Victoria organised an event called 'Voices of Muslim Women'. Our Community Engagement Officer Sr Mujde attended this event on behalf of NZF and this was her thoughts from the day.

"It was such a beautiful event with a bunch of beautiful sisters who were brave enough to stand up in front of everyone and share their stories. There were some stand out moments for me, one in particular was the number of Muslim sisters incarcerated. Sr Khadija shared some facts on why some of these sisters are incarcerated and prefer to stay in jail, one reason was to escape domestic violence. They preferred to stay in prison rather than to come out and face the domestic violent situation they were in, as they didn't have any family or community to help support them. You can listen to Sr Khadija’s full talk here. Another story Sr Selma shared had almost everyone in tears, it was when Selma visited a Muslim sister incarcerated and in isolation. This emotionally touched everyone in the room. I highly recommend you listen to it here. Sr Selma’s events are always a delight to attend and I’m looking forward to future ones.”
