Subject: The ten days are here Friend and you should make them count

Asalamu Alaykum warahamatullahi wa barakatuhu Friend

The greatest 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are now on our doorstep Alhamdulillah!  Thank you for your interest in the re-living of the Prophet’s Hajj that we rolled out and we’re glad you are looking forward to more!

In Ramadan, we know you count the passage of days and mourn their passage. But what is your attitude to what are literally the greatest ten days of the year?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these 10 days” (Sahih Bukhari 2:457)

The attitude you have in Ramadan should apply even more so to these blessed days that are just about to visit you.

As a community we have matured about the importance of Ramadan, and most have begun to give it the importance it deserves. And while we still have some way to go yet with Dhull Hijjah, we at NZF have made a real effort the last couple of years to push people to start realising the importance of these days, because without exaggeration they are the most beloved 10 days of the year to Allah!

These are days to increase in all types of good deeds. Our suggestion is you consider some of these and more:

  • Fasting: especially on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah

  • Offer more Sunnah and Nawafil prayers

  • Our relations with other people: mending them and improving them

  • Servitude to our parents and elders

  • Hastening to gain Islamic knowledge

  • Greater recitation of the Qur’an and pondering on the ahadith

  • Increasing in Sadaqah; especially by giving consistent amounts every single day if possible

  • Giving our Zakat in these days if our hawl (anniversary) falls roughly at this time, and making sure any missed Zakat is made up during these blessed days

  • Asking ample forgiveness from Allah and increasing in Du’a generally.

If you are intending on offering a sacrifice (Qurban), the sunnah is that you DO NOT trim your hair and nails between 1st dhul hijjah until your animal has been slaughtered, on the 11th dhul hijjah. This applies to men & women.

#DhulHijjahChallenge

To assist you in increasing your good deeds during these blessed days, we at NZF will be launching the #DhulHijjahChallenge on the 1st of Dhul Hijjah. This is going to be an exciting way that all of you in the community can ensure that you do at least one additional rewarding deed each day, while at the same time benefit others in your circle of friends & family. Keep an eye out on our Facebook & Instagram pages for more info!
