Asalamu Alaykum,
At NZF we have many stories. Allow me to relay one uplifting one for you:
Rewind back two years ago, Ramadan 2013 July This is when we started NZF and it was in week two when I received a call from a very distressed sister. She was case 17 at that point. This is what she said: “Brother I got your number from Sheikh XX and I have called so many organisations and no one can help. The Sheikh said that he is confident that you will be able to help me and that I should call him back if you are not going to help me.” I told her that an NZF team member will visit her at home. She was speechless. “Someone will visit me at home, I don’t believe you, but let’s see” she said.
She was a case of domestic violence and had left her husband and was staying with a family member, who wanted her out as soon as possible. NZF worked with her and her children to get them into their own place and start a ‘new’ life. Over the last two years we have followed up and helped the family with certain needs as well as psychological help for the sister. Many times we were just being an ear to listen and provide moral support.
Back to the present, Ramadan 2015 July
This morning she called again. This is what she had to say this time: “Salaam, I need someone from NZF to come to my house to collect my Zakat.”
Allahu Akbar, from a Zakat recipient to a Zakat Payer!
When people such as this sister come back to NZF to not just thank us, but actually pay their Zakat when only a few months or years back they needed assistance; it means a lot to us at NZF since we are constantly striving to not just hand out money to people, but actually help them rebuild their lives and become sustainable on their own. This is testament that all the hard work put into this by our volunteers is paying off, and it truly shows us how there can be no doubt that when we carry out the word of Allah we should expect a positive outcome, if not in this life then in the Hereafter.
All Praise is due to Allah, Who has blessed us to do this important work and a very special Jazakallahu Khairan to all of you who have given us your support.
These last 10 days of Ramadan I have one request, irrespective of whether you pay your Zakat to NZF or not - that you make dua for NZF team, that Allah continue to bless us with the opportunity to fulfil the Zakat obligations of our community here in Australia.
