Asalamu Alaykum,
January seems to be one of our busy months. In January 2017 we received a record 245 new cases. In January 2018, we received 196 new cases. In NSW alone we had 95 new cases and in VIC 65. The highest number for both states. Our average monthly new cases has also gone up by 30% to 110 cases/month. This meant our staff had to exert extra effort to meet the demand. Alhamdulillah this also means that more and more people are becoming aware of the services we provide. However, with increase in awareness and demand for NZF services, We need to ramp up our team across the country.

Increase in burials
In December we also had a large increase in request for assistance to help with burials. Three of the cases were sudden deaths and the families were not in a financial position to bury their loved one. Many Muslims are not aware that your local mosque and burial service will not bury you if you don’t pay. The costs for burial ranges between $6000 to $10,000. At NZF we are now working with all the parties involved to see how we can assist families in need in a better way.

Voices for Power
As part of our wider work we do in the community, please join us at the Halal Expo this weekend in Sydney where we are assisting the Sydney Alliance with the Voices for Power project.
We will be facilitating some important table discussions at the expo to empower the Muslims in Sydney & wider Australia.

A charity or a Zakat Foundation?
We often get asked if we are a charity. At NZF, we are not only about helping the poor and needy. Our goal is to establish the pillar of Zakat in Australia. Hence we don’t regard ourselves as a charity, but a Zakat Foundation.
To this end we are planning once again to conduct our Zakat workshops across the country starting in April insha Allah. If your mosque, centre, family, business or just a group of friends would like to learn more about our Zakat obligations then please let us know by replying to this email.
We also conduct special sisters only sessions.
