Domestic Violence is worse than ever, and our help is needed

Assalamu Alaykum

One of the key knock-on effects of the COVID-19 crisis has been on domestic violence. When families already under strain are confined to their homes for long periods of time, things are going horribly wrong.

We are seeing this in our own work since the COVID-19 crisis broke. There has been an increase in people requiring assistance through Zakat from us across the board, but we’ve also seen an increase in DV cases.

For 7 years, we’ve pioneered a unique model of fighting the impact of DV in our community: by helping sisters and families affected get on their feet, become independent and look after themselves through the mercy of locally distributed Zakat.

Two prominent sisters in the community - Ustadhah Umm Jamal and sister Ramio Abdo Sultan - have been long-term supporters of ours, particularly given how close they are to this issue through their work. They share some words with us below

We ask you to make your Zakat and Sadaqah go towards helping us assist families affected by COVID-19 during this crisis. We are seeing a big demand for our work, and need the community's help to fulfil this need. Consider giving your Zakat through us locally this year to help stem this crisis’ worst impacts.

Wassalam,
