Some important things to remember as you calculate your Zakat!

These are likely the days in which you are calculating your Zakat. As you do so, we wanted to send you an important reminder on a few things:
Renew your intention and intend to please Allah through this action: this is an act of 'Ibadah! Think about all your assets on which Zakat could be due when you start your calculation. Don't forget physical cash! In this day of electronic money, we often forget cash we may have stashed away. Zakat is due on that as well. This also applies to cash you might have in different bank accounts. Keep track of your jewellery. We have a new feature in our calculator that allows you to specify the purity of your Gold jewellery, to give you the value using the current real time value of Gold. Remember Zakat is an individual obligation. A husband will have to calculate Zakat on his assets separately to his wife. Each person needs to make their own intention to fulfil their Zakat obligation. Finally, remember that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is reported to have said:
“The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Judgment until he has been questioned about four things): his life - how he spent it, his knowledge - how he acted upon it, his wealth - where he earned it and how he spent it, and his body - how he used it.” [Tirmidhi, Kitab Sifat al-Qiyaama war Raqa’iq, no. 2417.]
