Subject: This should be your priority

This should be your priority

Again, apologies for my late message this week. I left Barcelona and am now in sunny London (it really is sunny today!). After all the challenges, I am back home.

This week I want to remind you of what should be your top priority, the thing that is most important...

No surprise when I say it, please...

Your top priority should be looking after YOU. Taking care of your health and your happiness. It's great that today you are reading this message and thinking about your level of self esteem.

Life is crazy, isn't it? Full of responsibilities and duties. Lots of daily jobs. Personally I am knee deep in work plus finishing off a masters degree!

It is important, though, that no matter how much work or responsibility you have, you make it your number one priority to have time for yourself. Time to look after yourself, to do what you enjoy, to think and dream. If it's all rush, rush, rush, your life will pass without you enjoying it and you can never get that back.

So please help others but help yourself first.

As they say on the airplane, "please put on your oxygen mask before helping someone else." You can't help anyone else if you can't breath!

To give the best of who you are, to be the best you can be, you need energy and health and then you can help others with drive...

How can you smile if you are tired? How can you be a valuable member of society if you are stressed and burnt out? How can you cheer someone up if you are not feeling good inside? Physical health is connected to mental health, but again please don't think your happiness depends on what you have or don't have (including health). Being confident and having self esteem means valuing yourself and understanding what you can achieve.

If you are run down surely your confidence and self esteem will be too and you cannot be an example for others.

What use is a tired and unfulfilled parent? What use is a despondent and overworked teacher who has lost control of their life? What use is an employee who works hard and long hours for money but neither enjoys his work, nor has any time or energy for his family?

You MUST slow down, relax, look after yourself and take the time to do what you love at least for part of every day.

If you do not respect yourself and your needs and ignore giving yourself some care and attention, then how low is your self esteem?

Speak again very soon,
Have a great week and take care,

Karl Perera
