Family: Together in Inclusion

In a vibrant church community, we believe that every family deserves to feel included and supported, regardless of the unique challenges they may face. Disabilities come in many forms—physical, sensory, intellectual, and developmental—each creating distinct needs that we must recognize.

Families with members who have disabilities often encounter barriers that can hinder their participation in church activities. It’s essential we create welcoming spaces—whether that be through accessible facilities, tailored programs, or compassionate support from volunteers.

Churches use Sunday School, Bible Studies, or Small Groups as a core discipleship piece of the church. These tools are essential pieces in building relationships and putting faith into action as each person lives life together.

In planning these core pieces, be sure to consider parents and caregivers. When planning Small Groups or Bible Study activities, care may need to be provided so that they can attend.

Here's what you need to know:

Life is tiring for anyone, let alone a parent or caregiver of an individual with a disability. Getting to another activity where focus is taken away from the purpose, may not seem worth the attempt to attend.

Providing care for their loved one changes EVERYTHING.  It allows a parent or caregiver to have the option to attend an event, with full attention on the intended purpose while knowing their loved one is cared for in a trusted environment. That is something that makes it worth the effort!

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Let’s band together to foster an environment where everyone has the opportunity to attend. By understanding diverse needs and implementing inclusive practices, we can ensure our church is a place of hope, love, and belonging for all families. Join us in this important mission!
