The Cowboys

The perception that the days of the cowboy began and ended in the late 19th century are not entirely accurate.  The lifestyle represented by cowboys over time spread well beyond the borders of the United States.  Perhaps part of the mystique passed into history, but a careful analysis of the situation illustrates that the the job of a cowboy continues into modern times albeit having to adapt to life in the 21st century.  "The Range" was shot in Caribou, Colorado on November 15, 1928.  It is symbolic of the Open Range image of a 19th century cowboy.
"This is the last cowboy song
The end of a hundred year waltz
The voices sound sad as they're singing along
Another piece of America is lost." --The Highwaymen
Modern day cowboys may drive pickup trucks and use cell phones but at heart they are all cowboy.  "Cowboy: The Road Goes On Forever" was taken in California (c.1975).
"I grew up a dreamin' of bein' a cowboy,
And Lovin' the cowboy ways." -- My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys--Willie Nelson.
