THE DEMISE OF THE COWBOY HAS BEEN GREATLY EXAGGERATED

To paraphrase Mark Twain. The common image of the cowboy of the late 1800s differs from early 20th century cowboys. Cattle drives, stagecoach robberies, and Dodge City shootouts have given way to more mundane chores. Above is a photo we call "Ranch Hand"; western U. S. c.1930. Below is "Minnesota Cowboys" (October 1941). We have some doubts that this image was actually taken in Minnesota despite the information provided. Licensing is based on usage.
