SALUTE TO NEW JERSEY

New Jersey has seen its share of good times as well as tragic times. Above is the famous "Steel Pier" on the boardwalk in Atlantic City (Oct. 1962). Feature attractions are the world's largest polar bear direct from the Seattle World's Fair, the General Motors Exhibit, Dixie Blandy (the flagpole sitter), Dick Clark and Bobby Vinton. Something for everyone. Below is one of several images in our Editorial collection of the "Wreck of the SS Morro Castle"; Asbury Park (Sept.19, 1934). The ship beached itself after a fire broke out at sea. Despite loss of life the spectacle made quite a tourist attraction.
