REMEMBER WHEN - 1923

It was known as the "Roaring Twenties" as an affluent period followed the conclusion of the Great War. If so, it must have bypassed these folks. Above, a hardscrabble life as this woman looks out on her "Deep Well Pump" and cat. For her, a life of hard work continues. Below is a Texas family facing an uncertain future with many mouths to feed, "San Antonio, Texas" (1923). If you're wondering why all the vertical photos, you need to remember that the most common camera of the day was the Kodak bellows. Rarely did a photographer think to turn it horizontal to shoot.
