PICTORIALISM

Photographs that look like paintings are classified as pictorialism.  They are characterized by soft focus. This style of photography was popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. As cameras and lenses improved, photos in sharp focus became the norm. Over the years we have presented several photos that look like paintings. To us they resemble Impressionist works of art. But that's just our opinion. Above is "Car Stopped Under A Tree"; U. S. c.1919. Below is "A Day On The Lake"; U.S. c.1939. These are recent additions to our collection. Licensing is based on usage.
