PHOTO MANIPULATION

Do you believe your own eyes? We have argued that while some photo manipulation in regard to color correction, resolution and exposure is sometimes necessary to bring an old scene back to its original state it is not permissible to alter a photograph to the point where it compromises the essence of photojournalism or documentary photography.  "Man in a Canoe" (1969) is a simple, creative photo taken in Wisconsin.  The point of interest is the red canoe.
Above is the same photo brought  into black and white and manipulated to bring back the color of the canoe from the original scene. The process took only seconds to complete. This is not photojournalism or documentary photography. This is fine art.  Modern software programs are capable of such alterations and much more.  Some of these "alterations" may not be so obvious. The trick is to be able to differentiate between what is real and what is not.
