FARMING DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION

Dust Bowl considerations aside farming has always been hostage to drought, insect infestation, floods, and price fluctuations of crops and livestock just to name some of the more obvious variables. "People of the Corn"; Minnesota (1939) above illustrates good times for this couple. On the other hand, "New Jersey Farmers"; c.1937 appears to show more of a struggle during hard times for these elderly farmers. There are no guarantees in farming as is the case as well in any other endeavor. See more Great Depression photos from our 1930s collection.
