EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN TEXAS

So the saying goes. DPI has an extensive collection of historical "Texas" based images. A search for "Texas" on our homepage will provide access to these images as they may appear in different collections. Above is "Kilgore,Texas: In The Oil Patch" c.1940. These oil wells are symbolic of the richness to be found in the land called Texas. Below is a photo that we call simply "Cowboy" c.1938.  What kind of cowboy would be caught without wearing his chaps? It would seem that this one has traded his horse for a "steel horse". Oil wells and cowboys are two symbolic images clearly associated with Texas.
