Who can forget the famous dueling banjos scene from the movie "Deliverance"? Although the location of the movie was northern Georgia and South Carolina the similarities to the photo below, "Pocahontas County"; West Virginia c.1925, are clear if not entirely analogous. The photo has the look and feel of Appalachia. The same can be said of other regional photos taken in other parts pf the country. With enough experience an approximate location can be determined by a straightforward inspection of a photo. See more images in our People collection.
