Hello to all my Million Dollar Peeps! As always, I hope this message finds you all doing well, and business is booming!
It's Sunday night as of me typing this message, so I know many of you won't be reading it until Monday or a bit later when you have availability, but I hope as many of you as possible digest my thoughts and insight.
Every once in a while, as time permits, I'll "drop in" and read some of the random emails and correspondence between my "Team DDC" (Dan, Dawn, and Charlie) and many of you. After skimming through some of your correspondence, I think it's important to share some important tidbits.
I know my emails are not typically high on motivation or what I call the "rah, rah fluffy talk," but I feel moved to share, so I'm not going to hesitate, and if something resonates with you, consider it a message for you as follows:
1. PLEASE, I'm begging you, head our warnings. I know some of your are so motivated (which I love) so you just want to charge into the ring like a bull and take no prisoners, but that's not the right way to go about approaching your business. Everything we do is with the intent to ensure your success while SAVING YOU MONEY! Everything we do is about protect that capital investment and cash flow.
Again, I LOVE when people are super motivated. I prefer to have to pull back the reins and slow you down versus having to poke and prod you to move forward and take action, but seriously, don't let the enthusiasm blind you.
Be smart, be patient, and be methodical. It will save you a ton of money and help you avert making a lot of mistakes. I've been in business since the year 2000 and working with client-providers for almost 20 years. My peeps, Team DDC, are a wealth of knowledge and well experienced. Learn from us versus thinking we're just going to co-sign anything your doing, especially if you're simply making a naive head-strong decision that we know if not going to work. If we see the train coming, when we tell you GET OUT OF THE WAY!
2. On the complete other end of the spectrum, some of you, seriously, what are you waiting for? It's a new year? In reading some of your emails, I'm seriously convinced you prefer to talk about staring your business versus actually moving forward and starting your business - seriously.
I talk about "tripping over pebbles," but wow, some of you are taking it to another level. I'm a firm believer that you either have "entrepreneur" in your DNA, or you don't. If not, NOT A PROBLEM. There's NOTHING wrong with working hard and being a great employee. There's "no shame in that game." The world needs good, reliable, and timely employees.
There's NEVER going to be a "perfect time." Nothing is ever perfect. There will be unexpected delays. You're going to forget something in your budget. Sometimes you're going to hire a complete dud. You might feel "ghetto" because you're starting out of your home office, but where you start is not where you're going to finish!
Mistakes and all, if you're an entrepreneur, there's no fighting to convince you. Risk and reward are the hand in the glove.
3. When I talk about scaling, I'm NOT talking about just scaling your business (singular), I'm also talking about scaling YOU (multiple businesses).
I always say "play the hand that you're dealt." If your market conditions dictate that you remain smaller in size so you have increased per trip/per client ROI versus whoring yourself out to brokers who use and abuse you, then remain small an selective by design and diversify! Create multiple businesses with diverse sources of revenue. This diversification is you scaling YOU!
4. NEVER, EVER, EVER allow someone else to control you or dictate how you run your business which includes NEVER, EVER, EVER giving access to a broker, vendor, customer, or other person/party to allow them to circumvent your authority and communicate directly with your drivers/caregivers and allow them to utilize your staff like it's their staff. Your people are YOUR people - bottom line. NEVER undermine your own authority.
That's my quick 50,000 foot aerial view based on what I'm seeing in some of your messages.
Take to heart and put into action any of those points that you find applicable to you. And you'll know it as you read it. Just be honest with yourself, and understand that our job is NOT to tell you want you want to hear, but to tell you what you NEED to hear! Why, because we want to see you be successful. BIG difference!
See you at the Top! Joel E. Davis
