This is Dan again. I just sent out a message asking for prospective sellers in FL, TX, and SC, and already we received some great questions from prospective sellers regarding enlisting Joel's helping with an acquisition, so let me offer some further insight.
Some of you have tried to buy/sell a business on your own or worked with a traditional broker, so you are experienced in all the games of inflating and deflating prices, you have done all the hemming and hawing and jockeying for positions to get the best price. This is exactly why Joel doesn't get involved with just any buyer/seller and why there is a cost to enlist Joel's help.
Once Joel gets involved, all the BS stops. If you are a seller, he is going to value the business and use that as a baseline for negotiations. If you think ChatGPT or something a desperate brokers is telling you is more accurate than Joel's valuation, then as Joel suggests, "Sell your business to Chat GPT." If the deal a broker is suggesting is so good, then why is the broker not falling over himself/herself to buy the business?
Likewise, if you are a buyer and you think you are a shrewd wheeler and dealer who is going to low ball a legitimate business/seller, working with Joel is not going to happen.
Again, this is why there is a price for a "seat at the table." Joel is only going to work with people committed to developing a win-win deal. If your intentions are otherwise, there are million and one businesses for sale online through different platforms and with brokers who sell any business because they can only "eat what they kill."
