Subject: My (Dan) 2 Cents to Help Some of You

Hello everyone,

This is Dan, Joel’s Online Manager.  I have corresponded with many of you in the past, so you are familiar with what Joel calls his "Team DDC (Dan, Dawn and Charlie).”  But for those of you who might be new to our UMTPG newsletter and in watching Joel's videos, the three of us are on the “front lines” when it comes to answering your questions and sorting through incoming emails.

In response to some recent emails, and in an effort to offer more context to some of your questions regarding the popular question "When do I know if I need help?" I will barrow a page from Joel’s “playbook.”

1. If you are not where you want to be in any capacity and your solution is to continue doing the exact same thing but hoping for different results, then you have officially reached the “insanity” stage.

2. If a high percentage of your revenue is sourced from brokers and you recognize you have no control trip volume, policies, and procedures, and your reimbursements remain stagnant while operational expenditures are increasing, then you have reached the “self-enslavement” stage.

3. You may have picked up in one of Joel’s videos where he suggested creating a timeline or actionable benchmarks to help in reaching determinations and making decisions. For example, if you are not where you want to be in 6 months, do you then enlist outside and unbiased help?  Is it a full year?  3 years?  What does that timeline look like for you before determining if nothing changes, I will be entering the "insanity" stage?

4. Maybe your benchmark is a dollar amount versus a time frame.  We see people all the time who “go it alone,” and when they find themselves $100,000 in the hole, then they officially determine they have hit their limit and are willing to concede they need help.  The only risk at that point is if you are close to being out of money with strained cash flow, then things may not be reversable.  It all depends as everyone's situation is different.

5. Maybe your benchmark is action based.  For example, we see providers all the time who have been in business for a number of years, and they are still only doing ambulatory work, or they are in a state that allows NEMT providers to perform stretcher transports and after so many years they are still only doing ambulatory and wheelchair work.  They are completely missing out on the higher ROI sources of revenue.

The list of scenarios and situations are endless, but it can all be summarized by simply considering if you are not where you want to be, chances are very good you need help.

I would also like quickly share the below feedback that we just received this morning from a very nice couple in Florida who enlisted our help in develop a custom market analysis.  I believe Joel mentioned them in one of his previous videos, but their feedback underscores why development of a custom market analysis project take so long for development but is important for strategic planning:
