Following on from my Co-living Conference speaker posts of late, today I wanted to let you know a bit more about some of our guest speakers on our panel. The panel is going to be truly fantastic and runs from 3 - 4.30pm to close off the festivities of the day. It's the perfect chance to ask these extremely knowledgeable speakers any of your burning questions about Co-living.

Robert Birch
- Rob, was previously Managing Director & Head of Expansion & led the growth of Hostel One, voted the 2nd best hostel chain in the world in 2017, where he managed the guest experience strategies, setup and operations of new locations and the continued oversight of the wider operations and service design of their 15+ properties. His contribution was crucial in their brand development, philosophy and marketing over recent years. Rob’s experience and proven track record allowed him to start his own consultancy business, HostelCoach, where he has helped move hostel businesses from their outdated, traditional model to a guest-centred, experience-led operational structure with great results. In 2018, Rob entered the co-living sector with Gravity. Creating with the team the business model & operational structure. Gravity is soon to launch their first site in London, whilst currently in negotiations with other sites in London and also Milan & Barcelona.

Tom Gatzen of Ideal Flatmate
. Today, Flatsharing is a way of life for so many of us, across all generations. Almost half of 21-35 year olds rent privately, and a huge proportion of us live in flatshares. However, the 40+ age bracket is actually the fastest growing group in flatsharing. As more of us rent for longer, Ideal Flatmate believe that flatsharing can be a positive thing. And it all starts with people. Choosing a flatshare is not just about choosing a property to live in. It's about choosing a group of people to share part of your life with. Ideal flatmate's mission is to make that part of your life as good as it can be. Tom quit his comfortable PR job in 2016 to launch Ideal Flatmate after becoming passionate about building his vision of a better, more personal flatsharing platform. He is now Managing Director of the company, ensuring the ship keeps pointing forward and that the growing body of flatsharers in the country are engaged with the company.

Jim Haliburton of HMO Daddy
will be joining us to speak about his 220 Bed HMO conversion in the West Midlands. Jim began property investing in 1991 letting rooms to students. At the time he was a College Lecturer lecturing in Law. His tenants were students who all came from the College where Jim worked. He immediately discovered that by renting out individual rooms to his student tenants this would generate between 3 and 5 times more rental income as opposed to letting the house out on a Single Let basis. Thus he began to specialise in acquiring and converting properties into HMOs (Houses of Multiple Occupation) to maximise his investment returns. Jim now owns 130 HMO's, 30 Single Let properties and he also has 19 Lease Option Properties. In all he has a portfolio comprising more than 800 rooms and still counting.

Oliver Lowrie from Ackroyd Lowrie Architects will be joining as an expert speaker on our Q&A panel section of the Co-living Super Conference.
Oliver has been a Director at Ackroyd Lowrie since its formation in 2014. Jon and Oliver met whilst both Project Architects at Architype, an architectural practice specialising in low energy buildings. They were united by their belief that the construction and design industries in the UK were currently inadequate to deal with the dual problems of climate change, resource depletion and population growth. Whilst at Architype, Oliver developed a low-energy, flat pack timber-frame school design that was rolled out across 7 schools in Hertfordshire. Oliver’s 2 main passions are low energy building materials, and how to use these in component-based, off-site building methods.
AL has been founded with the intention to create processes that allow for efficient production using natural materials using offsite methods where possible. Oliver has always felt that the construction industry causes knowledge to be applied at the wrong stage, and co-founded AL with the intention of ensuring that decisions were made by the right people at the right time.
Oliver lectures regularly on the need for technology to create change in the construction industry.
Design & Concept, Oli Lowrie is the man in the know and i'm really excited to have him share his thoughts with us next week

I really get excited everytime I post about this event as the speakers lined up are just amazing!
