I see it nearly every day.
I see competent, beautiful, conscious individuals who have
done lots of spiritual growth work, baffled by how challenging it is to be
around their families of origin.
The more they grow and expand in consciousness, the further
away they seem to be from the people who raised them or grew up with them.
There is nothing like the upcoming holidays to make that
rift seem even bigger, even though deep inside you want it to experience a true
celebration with family.

If you’ve been on a conscious journey of awakening, what I’m
about to share is going to make complete sense to you.
Even though we know better, we have a tendency to continue
to look to our families of origin for the specific expressions of love we never
felt from them when we were children.
When it doesn’t happen there, we look for it in our
partnerships, and are often again—disappointed.
In the back of our minds we know family members can’t give
us what they never experienced themselves, but the yearning still exists.
We know we are supposed to find fulfillment from the inside
out, but when we’ve tried a dozen approaches and nothing has quite done it, you
wonder if you can ever be loved the way you want to be loved.
For a conscious person, this is a serious conundrum. You
know that through Divine power you should be able to fulfill your greatest emotional
needs, but how the heck do you get it to happen?
Many years ago, one of my elders shared with me the secret
to unlocking that dilemma.
At the time, I didn’t recognize the true power of her
secret. (Isn’t that the way of it sometimes?) But I certainly do now.

| You see
there is a way to meet those needs and a way not to. |
|
|
|
She lovingly and clearly explained to me that I would be
fulfilled in the physical world when I met the needs of my inner child where
she lives now—in the spirit world.
There is no one in the world who knows exactly what you
needed better than you. Not even your family. So, it’s up to you.
But you can’t meet those needs as an adult doing child-like
or adult things, because the one who didn’t get her needs met was a little girl
or young woman. You have to meet her where she lived. You can only do that in
the spirit-world (shamanic realms, as some of you would call it).
That’s where she lives now!
Then my elder took me into journeys where I fulfilled every
major need that had arisen at every significant age.
When she was satisfied that I had positively re-created my
childhood emotionally and knew how to walk someone else through the same
process, she gave me the entire process for a time in the future when I would
teach it to others.
Months later, she died. Nearly 20 years later, I finally
began taking others through this precious process she had taught to me.

Now I understand what I couldn’t understand then. Once those
needs are met, you stop looking for your family to do it. |
|
That changes your entire relationship with them. Now, you
truly are able to live the spiritual principles of holding space for your
family without any expectation of them.
In that sacred space, they have an opportunity to finally
feel their own unmet needs getting met.

|
In some cases, family gatherings become entirely new and
(believe it or not) satisfying events.
Now, no one can guarantee fabulous family relationships with
every family member as a result of fulfilling your own inner child, but you
will begin a foundation for that potential.
Most of all, you will know how to fulfill the longing inside
you.
As the longings are fulfilled, you attract more and more
people into your life—a big spiritual family of individuals who reflect back to
you in the physical world—your own inner fulfillment.
