I remember when my friend, Dr. Larry Dossey, came to me in my dreams with a lesson about perfectionism. It couldn’t have been more divinely timed. I was in the middle of interviewing guests for a summit I hosted a while back. I had some people on that summit that I deeply respected, and I wanted to get everything just right, including Larry and his wife, Barbie. In the dream, Larry was showing me that sometimes being “messy” is a whole lot better. Just a few days after I had my dream, as I was interviewing Larry and Barbie, I told him about my dream and asked him for his thoughts. He smiled and explained his theory on “messiness.” I’m paraphrasing here, and this is the gist of what he said. Messiness allows space for the opportunities you couldn’t have planned for. It’s where you see how Consciousness is working for you. It’s also where we build strength and resilience, as we are exposed to the unexpected. Nature is messy and unpredictable, and yet it works beautifully.
