Decades ago, I was sitting with my first spiritual teacher of “Metaphysics 101,” and she invited us to close our eyes as she led us through a guided meditation.
When we finished the meditation, she asked each of us what we had experienced. She wondered if we saw or heard anything.
Rather embarrassed, I replied that I hadn’t seen anything.
“Nothing?” she inquired.
“No nothing,” I responded. All I saw were some colors swirling around.
“Don’t you think the colors might have some significance?” she asked me.

It had never occurred to me that the variety of swirling colors I typically saw when I closed my eyes might actually mean something.
Years later, after singing a medicine song to my mother as she lay on her death-bed, once again color came to me as I sat next to her with my eyes closed.
Only this time, a single color filled the space—bright and luminous. It brought healing to my mother so that she could live with us a while longer.

With my very first teacher, I discovered that my soul had its own way of communicating with me.
|
|
I was far more comfortable giving instructions to my soul and expecting it to comply with my demands than I was in understanding how my soul communicated with me.
The thought that my soul was actually communicating to me in hidden and mysterious ways was tantalizing.
From that very first class I became a student in the mysteries of the soul.

|
In order to discover how my soul was communicating with me, I had to pay very close attention to tiny details I had taken for granted for so long—details so small that they were barely perceivable.
|
|
Fortunately, I attracted some good teachers who helped me recognize the symbolic language of my soul.
Many of us are here on earth to fall asleep to our memory of the Divine, so we can enjoy the process of remembering.
Perhaps, in order to keep the mystery alive for us, the soul typically communicates in a more symbolic manner, as in:

Sounds
Rhythms
Patterns
Geometry
Phrases
|
|
Visions
Colors
Feelings
Power animals
Plants
Crystals
And more
|
|
|
|
|
|
In order to get the messages from the soul, you need to learn the unique language it has with you!
|
|
Remember, your soul is far more vast than what you normally experience inside your human body.
Therefore, your soul has found some rather clever ways of communicating with you that convey far more than a conversation in spoken language.
For example, when people begin working with me in counseling, they often notice their relationship with their power animals becomes stronger.
|
|
|
They have animal visitations both in their daytime life and in their dreams. These messengers from their souls have special insights and guidance just for them.
I know there are books written on the meaning of power animals, which can provide some indicators for potential meaning, but my elder taught me that each relationship with animals, plants and stones is actually unique.
When my elder helped me open up to my personal medicine wheel by taking me into journeys to meet my power animals, I finally understood aspects of myself in a way that I could never adequately put into words.

When you open up to the powerful feelings and hidden details of your inner experiences, you better understand the messages your soul is giving you.
|
|
For many years, in order to help people connect more deeply with the messages from their own souls, I taught dream classes.
I saw a lot of dream analysis classes being offered, but few teachers seemed to understand the many activities that actually take place in the dreamtime.
People certainly have traditional metaphoric (symbolic) dreams, but they also experience:
visions, premonitions, astral travel, provide service to people (as guardian angels or helpers), time/dimension travel, provide service to people (as guardian angels or helpers), re-weave reality, heal themselves or others inside dreams, receive messages for others, repair timelines, and on and on.

Some of my clients have discovered that their life purpose is fulfilled in their dreams at night, and not during the waking hours of the day!
Your sleeping dreamtime is a powerful time in which your soul is speaking directly to you.
|
|
Your soul’s sacred language is powerful and the guidance is rich, when you understand how it is communicating with you.
|
|
Life is easier and more fun when you understand what your soul is trying to tell you (like the colors I saw when I closed my eyes all those years ago).
Whether or not your remember your sleeping dreams, the messages are still coming through, and those messages can be discovered in journeys and meditations.
