Hello Friend,
His head was down as he walked along the path, his mind full of thoughts about what he needed to do next. More aware of where he was going, than where he was, he was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts at the sounds of dozens of little birds squawking at him from the trees.
He looked up to see what was going on, with so many birds around him clamoring. As his eyes dropped down, still wondering what was going on, he saw a copperhead snake on the path in front of him. The moment he saw the snake, the birds stopped squawking.
This is a true event that happened to my husband, Jeffrey.

Many times in our lives, the animals have come to offer their sympathy, power, assistance, blessings, and guidance. And they are a part of our prayers and blessings every day. ☺
When my first Native elder invited me to study with her, I had no idea that I had a significantly limited relationship with the earth and the creatures of the earth.
I hiked and camped with passion. I thought I had a pretty good connection. But under her guidance, I opened to a much deeper relationship with the spirits of this earth.
Like experiencing the Universe in a single molecule, the Mystery began to reveal itself as I discovered my power animals, and then as I discovered relationships with more precious creatures in both the sleeping dreamtime and the waking dreamtime.
We all have special relationships with power animals, plants and stones that can be discovered and nurtured.
Here is something you can do today to deepen your relationship with the creatures that live around you. |
| - Set aside 20 minutes.
- Fix a nice cup of hot tea and sit down outside.
- Let Mother Earth help you grow still inside as you observe her.
- Then watch the animals that live around your home. Whether your find yourself observing ants, birds, squirrels or the neighborhood cat, just watch what they do.
- Then ask yourself, “How am I like them?”
- And then ask, “What have I learned today that can help me in my own life?”
- Then turn that awareness into action immediately.
