Happy December, Friend!
Years ago, I decided to abandon the concept of hope entirely.
It seemed to me hope was more like making wishes that didn’t necessarily come true. I didn’t need to want for something in my future that might or might not happen.

Only a couple of years ago, my understanding of hope took a quantum leap. But for most of my life I thought hope was about asking for something, with the possibility it might come through.
Prayers were about hopefully asking God for something.
It was a natural way to pray, since it was how I had been taught to pray—much like being a child and asking a parent for what you want, hoping with all your heart they will say, “Yes.”
In my mind, a 50/50 chance of getting what I wanted just wasn’t working for me.
So when I decided to break faith with hope, I put my energy into taking action that made a difference.
The good news is that I learned a lot about taking initiative in my acts of creation, and how action gives the Universe a point of focus for supporting me.
I was blessed with many wonderful results and answers to my prayers because I followed up with action.

I discovered that action takes a wish out of the realm of thought and into the energy of becoming.
|
|
However, it was when I received Mary Magdalene’s teachings that I was introduced to an entirely new view of hope with far deeper meaning and implication.
From her point of view, hope isn’t a wish at all. It is something far more profound.
Here’s what she said:

|
Hope is found when you surrender to God’s love for you. When immersed in this love, worries and doubts leave you. This creates an opening through which God’s will is made known to you. In this love, struggle ends and you are free to enjoy wellness through an extended life or deliverance into God’s hands on the other side—all in accordance with God’s will. So, enrapt in God’s love, either reality is a blessing in grace.

She doesn’t describe hope as getting what you want, but rather, as opening to Divine will, expressed as love for you.
Surrendering to love has given the concept of hope a whole new meaning for me.
Instead of asking, I find great delight in considering what I wish to create next, and surrendering deeply into God’s love.
|
|
|
In that love, I open to what is next for me to know, feel, believe or do to be the expression of God’s love… however it best wants to manifest.
During this beautiful season of light, as we explore the meaning of hope through all of our various spiritual traditions and practices, perhaps Mary’s view will provide us with a new way to open to its promise.
