Subject: Getting out of overwhelm

and letting go of my superwoman complex

Hi Friend!

I was talking with a client the other day, and like so many busy people in the world trying to take care of themselves and make a difference, she was exhausted and overwhelmed.

Those are feelings I’ve been all too familiar with, especially in my earlier years when I worked for non-profit or government-funded organizations.

There was always so much to do and not enough time to get it all done. There were so many people in need, I couldn’t fathom when I was going to get to… me.

As you can imagine, I was always last on my to-do list. You might know the feeling.

Yep, I was a superwoman alright… a super overwhelmed woman!

No one expected me to be the superwoman I was trying to be. I was doing it to myself.

There are many reasons I put that kind of pressure on myself and it came out of the challenges and traumas of my childhood.

  • Having a mother who was sick a great deal of the time

  • Being the oldest of six kids with younger ones to care for

  • Living with expectations to overachieve

  • Believing it was better to give than to receive

  • Avoiding feeling shamed or dismissed by anticipating others’ needs

  • Staying busy to keep from reliving the pain of my traumatic experiences

  • And more

As young adult, I hadn’t yet learned how to recognize or change the superwoman complex I had developed in order to survive. So, the pattern drove my life.

With everything and everyone else coming first, my essential self was getting lost.

What I discovered as I began to heal is that overwhelm happens when we feel defeated.

When a big part of you is feeling defeated (sometimes before you even really get started), it’s really difficult to see what is important, like putting yourself first.

In an effort to find meaning, we try to satisfy everyone and everything that seems so important—all the while losing track of our first priority

… to love and care for the Divine inside of ourselves.

Yes, of course, when a child is sick or upset and crying, they need to be taken care of in that moment. Or when there is an emergency, we may need to suspend our needs for a while.

But isn’t it interesting how we can get caught up in taking care of everyone else first—most of the time? Even when they don’t need or want it or it doesn’t serve their highest good?

Here’s what I finally figured out and the mantra I recited to myself to start breaking the pattern:

If I’m truly going to be there for others in the best way possible, I needed to be there for myself in the best way possible.

Notice I said “the best,” not the least I could get by with. ;) Then, I got busy learning how to lovingly break the old childhood trauma-based pattern with new practices.

In time, I started teaching what I’d learned (including some super-powerful ancient feminine practices) that really worked for me. Like how to:

  • identify and honor life-giving priorities rather than life-draining distractions

  • recognize codependent patterns born from trauma, so they can lovingly be released

  • awaken a deeper sense of self-value so that choices reflect love for others AND you

  • stimulate clarity so you can easily see what will serve you and others best

  • bring defeat and overwhelm to rest, so you can experience self-love and joy every day

The old me would have been overwhelmed just thinking about the things that are part of my day-to-day life now, like writing bestsellers, making appearances, and serving tens of thousands of people around the world.

I can tell you from experience, it is wonderful when you are no longer plagued by daily feelings of overwhelm and the subtle feeling of defeat that can be playing in the background.

Superwoman has a whole new meaning for me now, like super happy woman, super calm woman, super energized woman… 😂

Those kind of superwoman descriptions matter to me!

Misa, I really appreciate the work that you do. This is the first of your sound healing products that I purchased. The day I got it I had an inflamed cuticle so I decided to try it out on that. Before the recording finished, the throbbing was gone. I’ve taken Mucinex or similar remedies nearly daily for several years due to a chronic build up of mucus that causes dizziness. Within a week of receiving this recording, which I use regularly (often daily), I stopped taking the meds and have not needed them again. I currently use many of your products and find them to be quite effective. Thank you!

I have been consistently using this sound meditation for a combination of hormonally charged issues and have experienced definite and positive results and in quite a short time. I am in the process of moving through menopause and have had issues with fibroids, heavy menstrual cycles, bloating and acne, all of which are caused by inflammation to some degree. The beautiful tones and vibrations felt and heard through Misa’s healing song are calming and soothing to the emotional, physical and spiritual bodies. My symptoms continue to improve and I am empowered through experiencing a better quality of life. I am deeply grateful. —Tammy

I deeply injured my shin in May of this year. Have struggled to heal it successfully – some minor improvements, doctor provided antibiotic cream, several times close to being gone, only to have it flare up again with inflammation/infection/rash. I listened to this recording once and it has healed fully and has not returned. My leg feels like MY leg again. Thank you Misa. —Kris
