Well, except for one thing. That lake house was in Virginia where the humidity was high and mold was everywhere—including in my lungs. I loved this little spot of heaven so much, I resisted leaving it, even though I knew I needed a drier climate. I asked my naturopath what I should do and he said, “Move to Santa Fe.” After a particularly difficult winter, I took some of his advice and asked my husband to drive us out there so I could see if it made a difference for me. Within a week I was feeling superbly better. As you can imagine, within months, we moved out here to the desert and I’ve been healing steadily and regaining my vitality ever since. But I let my health slide for far too long because I loved that lake, and all of the family and friends we had grown to love while we were there. The price of leaving, in my mind and heart, was high. So, I suffered more than I ever needed, because for 3 years I resisted doing what I knew I needed to do for my health.
