Subject: Success Beyond the Classroom Quarterly - April 2016

Happy Spring from SBC!
Introducing
CreativeCon

for Middle School students
Our extremely successful creativity-focused programs have undergone an update!

The CreativeCon for 6-8th grade will take place November 29, 30, December 1, and 2 2016 at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

The Creativity Festival will expand to grades 3-5 and will happen at the U of MN Ted Mann Concert Hall over three days: January 10, 11, and 12 2017.

CreativeCon is where critical thinking, creative and alternative problem solving, and conversations on where and how creativity, arts and STEM meet will be focal points of the students' day. The Creativity Festival will continue focus on exploring and honing those skills; the middle grades program will focus on expanding and applying those skills.

Both the Creativity Festival and CreativeCon will have a unique aspect of career exploration as well!
Over 1,000 students in fourth through eighth grade attended SBC's
Young Authors Conference
on March 17, 2016 at Bethel University.

Students attended sessions on fiction, poetry, songwriting, spoken word, and many more.

During lunch, students had the opportunity to share their work at an open mic session led by professional hip-hop artists and MCs.
"Red Shirt" Corner

Denise Ratzlaff is an SBC board member, advocate, and a Red Shirt extraordinaire. Every single time there's an opportunity to go to bat for SBC, whether it be for fundraising, volunteering, or a conversation, Denise is always up to swing for us! We're so grateful for her time, talents, and passion for the students that we serve.

"I originally started volunteering with the Young Authors conference 15 years ago when my daughter was in the 4th grade...The creativity and the energy– as well as the inspired organization of the Conference– really hooked me that first time... Finding out that there were other programs like the Creativity Festival was like icing on the cake. We love SBC's progra
ms. [SBC is] committed to serving students... by building on their creativity, their energy and their dreams in a tangible way that speaks to who they are as individuals and what they have to offer. Students can visualize their own potential through their interaction with SBC programs."

If you or someone you know is a superstar of an SBC volunteer and should be nominated for a feature in our "Red Shirt" corner, let us know! They will be featured in our July newsletter.
We've made big changes to our Creativity-focused events!
