As cool autumn weather arrives, we're feeling cozy while we plan for an exciting community gathering: our Great Music with Good Friends fundraiser concert on October 24th. Two Maine bands with deep ties to MCMA, The Speed of Sound and MKTrio, will headline an evening with a warm, homey vibe, great food and drink, and a roomful of friendly faces. We hope you'll join us! If you need more enticement, read on to see some of the amazing prizes our sponsors are offering for the event's raffle baskets!

You'll also meet our October Student of the Month and hear about a special offer of free ukulele concert tickets for students and their families!

YOU MAKE THIS ALL POSSIBLE!

An important part of MCMA's mission is our commitment to never turn a dedicated student away due to financial constraints. This is possible thanks to the ongoing generosity of community members like you! Please consider a donation to help support our tuition assistance fund for this semester and beyond. Thank you!

MEET OUR OCTOBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH!

Georgia has been working with Amelia Watson since February of 2025, starting with guitar. Prior to 2025, she took guitar and drum lessons with MCMA founder Tom Ulichny, and took part in our Girls Rock camp this summer. Amelia had this to say about her student:

"Georgia is a wonderfully intelligent and creative person. She always comes to lessons ready to rock and ready to give anything new her best shot.

She is a quick learner with new techniques, but even quicker to apply those techniques to all of the music she is working on, both in and out of the studio. Not to mention that she is also balancing two facets of music at once: guitar and now voice!

Georgia’s bright mind is equaled by her delightful demeanor and joyful spirit. Watching her grow in skills and confidence has been a joy! Congratulations, Georgia!"

GET COZY AT OUR FUNDRAISER CONCERT!

Think of it as your favorite living room, but with really great music: The Speed of Sound with MKTrio, Maine bands with deep ties to MCMA. We’re creating a cozy, come-as-you-are vibe at Watts Hall, with comfy couches for kicking back, chairs for settling in and listening, warm lights, and plenty of room to dance when the music takes you there.

Hang out. Listen. Dance. Eat & drink. Make yourself at home.

FACULTY UPDATES & PLAYLIST

Dr. Heather Beers:

"This is my second year teaching the course 'Women, Music, & Culture' at Wesleyan College in Georgia. The course is taught online and asynchronously and it’s exciting to share my passion for this topic with my students very far away!"

For this month's FACULTY PLAYLIST, our ongoing series highlighting the natural habits of MCMA's faculty as individuals who engage with music regularly (and passionately), Heather shares:

"I’m currently completely obsessed with the song Great Big Storm by Nate Ruess, and the whole album it is from, Great Romantic."
