Subject: What Legal Challenges Do Homesteaders Face + Members-Only Webinar Reminder

Dear Friend,

Homesteaders are a growing part of the American food production landscape and face unique legal and regulatory challenges. We at FTCLDF are committed to helping homesteaders pursue their dreams of a more self-sufficient and resilient lifestyle.

Which is why 6 years ago, we added a new membership category: the Homesteader. And boy has it been popular!

None of our ancestors could have imagined that their descendants could be barred from providing food for themselves by their own people. But, that’s the world we live in now.

We help our homesteader members navigate issues related to zoning, animal control, on-farm slaughter for personal consumption, and more. We also hate to be the ones to tell homesteaders (and other food producers) that they can actually get in trouble for giving away or bartering their extra eggs or milk!

But we are thrilled to be able to help more food producers by participating in the annual Homesteaders of America Conference again this year. It’ll be in person at fairgrounds outside of Front Royal, Virginia on October 8-9.

Our own Executive Director Alexia Kulwiec will speak Friday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. on “Navigating Homestead and Farm Laws” and will cover the basics. (For specific consultation from our attorneys about the situation in your area, join today!)

The Homesteaders of America community is diverse and the conference reflects that: talks and workshops vary from beekeeping, to rabbit processing, to food preservation, to off-grid living, and much more.

Can’t be there in person? You can watch the event LIVE! Sign up or learn more HERE.

P.S. If you’re a member in our food freedom community, remember the members-only webinar “Farm-to-Chef: Marketing Your Small Farm to Restaurants” is happening later today (Thursday, September 30) at 1 p.m. Eastern. (Yes, replay will be available to current members to watch whenever—just sign up so that you get the email notification when it’s ready for viewing).

Current members: search for your email invitation from us to attend the webinar! Don’t see it? Email me at amelia@farmtoconsumer.org and I’ll be happy to sign you up.

Cheers,

Amelia Martin
