Subject: Take Action! Virginia Farmer Denied Right to Farm

Hi Friend,

If you live in Virginia, come show your support for a Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) member who has been denied the right to farm his land in Warren County, Virginia!

The Virginia Right to Farm Act prohibits local governments from unreasonably interfering with citizens’ rights to farm agriculturally zoned land. These rights extend to prohibiting local governments from requiring citizens to jump through unnecessary bureaucratic hoops and needing to apply for special use permits.

But the Warren County Department of Planning has done just that to FTCLDF member Nelson Mendes by denying his agricultural exemption applications for structures built strictly for agricultural purposes on his farm, which is zoned for agriculture. This matter not only involves infringements of the Right to Farm Act, but concerns public accountability and local government encroachment on the personal and commercial liberties of its citizens.

Please see suggested action below and share this alert with your family and friends in Virginia.
