Hi Friend,

A Food Freedom Bill, H.B. 1121, has been introduced in the South Dakota legislature.

This bill would:
  • Make the selling of baked and canned goods easier by removing required disclaimer language and the requirement that a third party verify method of processing.
  • Expand where goods can be sold to include some remote and third party sales.
  • Require labels indicating goods are homemade and include ingredients.
  • Prohibit counties from passing ordinances to restrict production and sale of homemade goods.
You will likely be receiving an email from me in the near future asking you to contact your legislator to support this bill.

In the meantime, I am looking for South Dakota readers who may wish to be involved in these efforts. It is always helpful for legislators to hear from food producers impacted by this bill.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping by emailing me directly at

I'd love to see this pass in South Dakota!

Thanks,
