Plus: What our policy team is tracking

❄️ HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM FTCLDF ❄️

Hello, Friend! This holiday season, I’m celebrating the resilience of our members and the growing movement for community-driven food systems.

I’m deeply grateful for all of you: everyone who joins as a member, reads our newsletters, donates, or advocates for scale-appropriate regulations and better agriculture laws. Your commitment fuels our work protecting the right to grow, raise, produce, sell, and choose real food.

Wishing you peace and joy from all of us at FTCLDF,

Alexia Kulwiec

Executive Director

POLICY UPDATE

Even through the busy holiday season, our policy team continues to track developments at both the state and federal levels.

Here’s the latest on what’s moving and what’s on hold as we close out the year:

Congressional support for the LOCAL Foods Act continues to grow: Rep. Becca Balint (VT) recently signed on.

In Michigan, three new raw milk bills (HB 5217, 5218, and 5219) were introduced. While they would expand sales of raw milk and raw milk products without a formal permit requirement, the proposals also include some provisions of concern, such as state registration, collecting a waiver from each customer about the dangers of raw milk, maintaining certain records, and regular testing. We’ll continue evaluating potential impacts and report back when there is action to take.

Although movement on the Farm Bill was expected before year’s end, the government shutdown has pushed timelines back. A short-term resolution in November extended some programs, but others remain in limbo until full negotiations resume. In the meantime, the government just announced bridge payments to farmers impacted by trade market disruptions and increased costs.

As we head into the new year, we expect an uptick in state-level bills. Members are encouraged to share any legislation they hear about so our team can track developments early.

Our last policy update covered other newly introduced bills we’ve been tracking. Once these bills reach a point of engagement, we’ll send out action alerts to our members and the public.

YOU ASKED, WE LISTENED

Upcoming member benefits

FTCLDF is always striving to expand our resources and services — especially when our members ask for something specific. In 2026, we'll explore how to unroll some exciting new member services, asking for input every step of the way.

Member-to-Member Online Community

We know that many of you have been asking for a place to connect with and learn from other FTCLDF members. In early 2026, we will begin testing a secure platform that offers more privacy than social media and more interaction than newsletters or webinars.

Members will be able to opt in or out, and our team will offer training resources to help folks learn how to use it with confidence.

To help us fine-tune this new service, please take this short survey below.

THERE'S STILL TIME TO SUPPORT FOOD FREEDOM

Our year-end fundraiser is still in full swing, and your contribution makes a real difference in how many farmers, ranchers, and food producers we can defend in 2026.

If you haven’t had a chance to give yet, there’s still time.

Together, we can enter the new year ready for the challenges ahead and the victories to come. Make your year-end gift today!
