TAKE ACTION #1

Testify on behalf of HB 16.

When: Friday, March 29 at 1 pm is public testimony before the House Resources Committee. The meeting starts at 1 pm and, as of now, HB 16 is first on the agenda.

Where/How: If you can go to a Legislative Information Office to testify, it provides the best sound quality. Here is a list of offices. If you cannot, email Karla.Hart@akleg.gov for the number to call in to give public testimony. If you call in, the best sound quality is from a land line. Whether from a land line or cell, please AVOID using speaker phone as it garbles your voice.

If you would like to send written testimony, you may submit it to house.resources@akleg.gov, and it will be entered into the record. Emails received by 4 p.m. on March 28 will be copied and distributed to all members in advance of the meeting. If you write, please include your name and residence address. You may do both written and oral testimony, and reference your written in your oral, allowing for more details there.

What: You will have between 1 and 3 minutes for oral testimony (the length depends on how many people call to testify). For your testimony, introduce yourself and where you live, say if you support the bill, and then highlight particular aspects that are important and/or of concern to you and why.
TAKE ACTION #2

Call or email your State Representative to urge him or her to support HB 16 and help move the bill forward. A phone call has the greatest impact. Remember to keep the conversation polite and to-the-point.

You can find out who your State Representative is by going to akleg.gov, and entering your address in the Who Represents Me box on the bottom right.

If you call after hours, you can simply leave a message:

My name is ____, and I am a constituent. I am calling to urge Representative ______ to support HB 16, the herd share bill, and to help the bill move forward.

If you prefer email, you can send the same message online.

More information and talking points about the bill are below.
MORE INFORMATION

You’ll find the bill, video from the March 25 hearing, and documents HERE. This is also where you’ll find additional documents and written testimony as they are submitted to the record.

Talking Points:
  • How would this bill affect you, if passed?
  • Why do you want to be able to choose to access raw milk and milk products through a herd share?
  • If you're a dairy farmer, why do you want to be able to manage a dairy herd and provide raw milk and raw milk products to herdshare owners?
See more info about HB 16.
