Dear Friend,
We have been monitoring The North Carolina Farm Act of 2025, which sought to ban raw milk herd shares and sales of raw milk for pet food.
We learned that the Act passed the Senate yesterday and was sent to the House. Notably, the raw milk sections have been removed from the latest version of the bill.
This means that herd share arrangements continue to be lawful and sales are unlawful. It may well be that the raw milk portion of the bill has been tabled for this year, although because the legislative session doesn’t end until July, there is a risk that this could be revived. We will continue to monitor its progress.
Also, we believe the study on the validity of herd shares that was assigned to the Agricultural Committee a few months ago will still proceed later this year and we will continue to monitor that effort as well and let you know what you can do to get involved and be heard.
Here’s the bill page if you’d like to review the status in more detail.
