Subject: Summer Camps & Workshops safety information for parents and kids

☀️ Please share our friendly video introduction to our safety procedures with your kids.

Parents, please share this friendly video introduction to our safety procedures with your kids. We can't wait to see you at camp!
We are so excited to kick off our summer programs. Here’s what we’re doing to make sure that our face-to-face summer programs are a fun and safe experience for everyone:

Limiting Program Capacity
  • All programs this summer will be limited to 10 kids.
  • We’ll add sessions to accommodate more than 10 kids if needed and the space is available.
Maintaining Distance
  • Tables and chairs will be set up to provide appropriate distancing.
  • We will use targets on floors to help maintain distancing.
  • Restroom breaks will be staggered to limit the number of people in small bathroom spaces.
  • We will help kids remember that we need to keep distance between each other.
Cleaning Spaces
  • Tables, chairs, counters, and other high-touch surfaces will be cleaned after each program.
  • Each child will have their own basket with supplies so that materials and equipment aren’t shared.
  • Materials like scissors and glue sticks will be cleaned after each use.
Face Covering/Handwashing
  • Face coverings are required for all staff and visitors.
  • We will help kids remember to wear masks properly.
  • We will spend as much time as possible outside so that kids can have a break from wearing the face coverings.
  • Kids are welcome to bring their own masks and we will also provide masks in case masks get lost or forgotten.
  • There are sinks in the Jupiter and Mars Rooms that will be available for handwashing and there will also be frequent breaks for handwashing.
Emergency Contact Form
This year we will hold all forms electronically to minimize contact touch with educators.
  • The Emergency Contact Form is available online and can be printed off at home, signed, scanned and emailed in.
  • If you do not have access to a computer or printer, you can request to have a form mailed to your home. Please request printed forms by email at Education@sloanlongway.org. You can also request forms by phone at 810-237-3409.
  • If you mail in or drop off your signed form to Longway Planetarium, we will scan forms into our system.
Sign-in and Sign-out
Longway Planetarium educators will check summer participants in and out of programs this summer to reduce contact with the sign-in sheet and pen.
  • Please bring kids into the lobby and you will be directed to the classroom where your program will be held.
  • An educator will greet you and verify that your emergency contact form has been turned in.
  • An educator will then sign-in your summer program participants and verify pick up time.
  • Please let the educator know at this time if another parent or guardian will be picking up the camp participant.
  • When the summer program has concluded, an educator will sign-out the program participant when you arrive for pick up.
To help us provide a better and safer experience for our summer program kids, please:
  • Don’t allow your child to attend if he isn’t feeling well or is running a fever. Our participant cancellation policy has been suspended for this summer, so you will receive a refund.
  • Provide an emergency contact number where someone can be reached in case your child becomes ill during our program.
  • Have your child wear sunscreen to the program. We will be spending time outdoors.
  • Let us know if your child is unable to wear a mask due to health reasons.
We understand that asking kids to wear masks and maintain distance from each other is tough, but we need to adhere to state mandates and guidelines for providing a safe environment in order to present face-to-face programs. We’re expecting that there will be a lot of socializing as kids get back into the swing of being together, and we’re just as excited as they are! We appreciate your understanding as we begin the process of reopening Longway Planetarium.
Summer Camps & Workshops are funded in part by the Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage. Your tax dollars are at work.
