DINOSAURS WILL ARRIVE AT SLOAN MUSEUM AND LONGWAY PLANETARIUM IN FLINT JANUARY 2025!

-Dual Dinosaur Fan Extravaganza arrives in the Flint Cultural Center with Premieres of T.Rex and Ice Dinosaurs: the Lost World of the Alaskan Arctic-

Flint, MI – Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium in Flint, Michigan, will be hosting new dinosaur-themed attractions starting in January 2026.

ICE DINOSAURS: The Lost World of the Alaskan Arctic, produced by Imagine (https://www.theimagineteam.com/), opens January 20 through May 3, 2026, at Sloan Museum of Discovery. ICE DINOSAURS takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through time to explore the majestic ice-age creatures of the Alaskan Arctic. The hands-on exhibit invites visitors to learn about the unique adaptations of polar dinosaurs who lived in cold, dark and snowy conditions year-round. The exhibition presents a unique look at paleontology, climate science, and the survival of ancient species in one of the harshest environments on Earth. Through stunning life-size reconstructions, animatronics, fossils, and multimedia exhibits, ICE DINOSAURS invites visitors to experience these magnificent creatures and learn about the mysteries of the Alaskan Arctic during the age of dinosaurs. The exhibition also provides a rare glimpse into how paleontologists uncover clues about these long-extinct species and what they tell us about Earth’s ancient past.

T.REX: The Greatest of all Tyrants, a new giant screen cinematic experience, opens January 27, 2026, at Longway Planetarium, Michigan’s largest planetarium show dome. Dinosaurs have long captivated audiences in museums and at the box office, with one standing above the rest—the Tyrannosaurus rex. Advances in CGI wizardry and tyrannosaur paleontology over the past 25 years have set the stage for a new look at the “king” from its early years to its prime. Narrated by Sam Neill, the film tells the remarkable true story of three kids who discovered a teenage T. rex fossil, a find that made international headlines in over 2,000 media outlets. Due to the realistic effects with dinosaur hunting packs and fights, T.Rex is recommended for ages 10+ and may not be suitable for persons sensitive to animated fight scenes.

Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium are both located on the campus of the Flint Cultural Center. They are easily accessible off of I-475 from either I-69 or I-75 by taking the Robert T. Longway Blvd. exit. Parking is free at both venues. ICE DINOSAURS exhibition tickets are added to Sloan Museum General Admission prices and will include access to the entire museum, including the Discovery Hall hands-on science gallery, Hagerman Street early childhood learning gallery, the History Gallery, and Durant Historic Vehicle Gallery. Add-on ticket prices for the ICE DINOSAURS exhibit are $10 for ages 12-59, $9 for seniors 60+, $7 for kids ages 2-11, and free for members, teachers, active military members, and children under age 2. T.REX show tickets are $10 for ages 12-59, $8 for seniors 60+, $8 for kids ages 2-11, and free for members, teachers, active military, and children under age 2; Genesee County residents with proof of residency receive 50% off show tickets. Learn more and buy tickets for both ICE DINOSAURS and T. About Sloan Museum of Discovery & Longway Planetarium
Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium are overseen by the non-profit Flint Institute of Science and History (F.I.S.H.) with a shared mission to engage communities on a learning journey in history and science. Together, they served over 308,000 visitors and students during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Located within the Flint Cultural Center Campus in Flint, Michigan, Sloan Museum of Discovery opened in July, 2022, with four primary hands-on learning galleries and one exhibition hall for special traveling exhibits. The original Sloan Museum opened in 1966 as the Sloan Panorama of Transportation, named after long-time General Motors president, chairman and CEO Alfred P. Sloan. The new Sloan Museum of Discovery is nearly twice the size at 107,000 square feet and completely re-built into a re-imagined world-class, hands-on science and history museum. Longway Planetarium, named for Robert T. Longway, a community leader and one of the men responsible for the development of the Flint Cultural Center, opened in 1958 and was renovated in 2015. Additional upgrades, including a Digistar 7 projection system and surround sound audio, were made in 2021. It remains the largest planetarium in Michigan. Classes on the solar system and general science are offered to school groups and the general public. Both institutions are supported in part by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC). Educational programs are supported, in part, by the Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage.
