New Interactive in Durant Gallery -

Flint Soap Box Derby exhibit

Flint was one of many cities around the country that held gravity-powered racing, a.k.a. Soap Box Derby Racing. Thanks to former derby racer and philanthropist Steven Katz, a new interactive exhibit about the history of the Flint Soap Box Derby just opened in Sloan’s Durant vehicle gallery. It features two derby race cars, a miniature race track where kids can create and race toy cars, a touchscreen interactive, and the names of most of the Flint area winners starting in 1936. The 40th Annual Holiday Walk is back Dec. 2

The entire Flint Cultural Center campus will be lit up with sparkling festive lights and free entertainment Dec. 2, 5-8 p.m. Families and friends will enjoy strolling up and down East Kearsley Street for free live music, carolers, crafting, performers, and free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, among other activities.
